Link Building: Why You Need it and How it Works

Why are links important?

Besides being a source for direct traffic, proper link building will increase search engine rankings. Search engine algorithms rely heavily on links to determine a site's relevancy and how they should be ranked. Obtaining links from quality, relevant sites, will improve your natural search engine rankings.

What should I keep in mind when building links?

There are a few factors to keep in mind when starting a link building campaign.

How many links do I need? The more links a page has pointing to it, the more authoritative it will be viewed. This is most important in Google and is factored into their "PageRank".
What kind of links do I need? You should stick to links from websites that are topically relevant to your website. Links from websites with a large number of incoming links and low amount of outbound links are viewed as quality links.
What anchor text should I use? Since this is what most people use to describe the link, search engines factor anchor text into their algorithm. Whether it be a particular product, service, or location, it's important to use anchor text that best describes the page you are linking to. A link with anchor text "example" will improve your chances to rank higher in the search engines for "example". When building a high volume of incoming links, it's important to vary the anchor text. A sudden influx of links all using the same anchor text could raise red flags. Inbound links with varying anchor text pointing to relevant pages is a recipe for a natural link profile and long-term success.

Regular Links: A traditional text link. These links are most often found listed on pages under headers such as "Friends" or "Recommended". Regular Links are almost always found on homepages and generally have higher PageRank than the Context Links offering.
Context Links: These links are embedded within existing content on pages within our marketplace. Context Links show up as simple hyperlinked instances of the requested anchor text.
Both link offerings are served as static links and are not labeled in any way as paid.

What control do I have over the link details?

You have total control over the anchor text and the destination URL.

How many links do I have to buy and how long does it take?

You can buy as few or as many links as you'd like. The more quality links you have, the better your chances are of ranking for your keywords. IntelliLinks has no minimums commitments. In fact, once you place an order, you'll receive confirmation with the link locations. You then have 24 hours to review the list of link locations and can reject any of them and receive a full credit to your account. Most links will be live within 24-48 hours.

Once deciding to start a link building campaign, we recommend you keep your links in place for at least 90 days to see maximum effects. Some results can be seen much sooner. However, there is some lag time between when the new links are found and when the links have been factored into your site's ranking.

How do I get started?

Once signed up, you can request proposals from our sales team or browse through the marketplace yourself.

How to effectively use the IntelliLinks marketplace

Browse the marketplace. Once you're logged into your account, click the "Marketplace" tab. This will open the IntelliLinks marketplace. This is where you can browse the entire inventory of available link locations.
Filter your search. Find the exact links you're looking for. You can search by keyword, category, language, or PageRank. You can also filter by regular links or context links.
Add links to your cart. After you've filtered your search and found the links you're looking for, simply click the "Add" button to add the desired link to your cart.
Specify linking details. Once you've added all links to your cart that you want to purchase, click "View Cart". This will show all links that are in your cart. At this point, you can customize the linking details you're going to use. Once you've set up the anchor text and URLs, you're ready to checkout.
Checkout and purchase the proposal. Click "Checkout now". Enter billing and payment information and click "Complete Purchase". That's it!

Immediately after completing the checkout process, you will be sent confirmation of the purchase as well as the linking details including the link locations. If for any reason you don't like a link location, you have 24 hours after purchase to reject the link and receive full credit back to your account. Links will begin going live immediately after purchase. Some links will take up to 48 hours to go live.
